Players from the National Football League that are named to the Pro Bowl earn a trip to Hawaii in February. Players named as All-Stars from United Indoor Football league get a trip to Bloomington, Ill., in August. Either way, it’s still an honor. One’s just been doing it a little longer.

The first-ever UIF All-Star game will be played this Saturday, Aug. 18, at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. The game will feature the Eastern Conference All-Stars against the Western Conference All-Stars. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Seven players from the Rock River Raptors will suit up for the Eastern Conference. Ben Sankey will be the starting quarterback for the East. He will be joined on offense by his center Craig Howard. Anthony Harris, Blue Aldridge, Darius Jones and Maurice Simpkins will help anchor the defense. Doug Daniel will do the kicking for the East.

The Raptors are sponsoring a bus trip to the game. Cost is $50 and includes lunch, beverages and ticket to the game. The bus will leave from the Holiday Inn on State Street at 10 a.m. and arrive in Bloomington at 12:30 p.m. Fans will have time to enjoy the downtown area of Bloomington as well as visit the U.S. Cellular Coliseum for game day activities. To reserve a spot on the bus, call the Raptors front office at (815) 965-7000. Fans who are going to the game and just need tickets are encouraged to call the office so they can get seats with the other Raptors fans. Those tickets will be left at will call on game day.

Fans unable to make it to Bloomington can watch the game on the B2 network. You will need a high-speed Internet connection and a current version of Windows Media Player. The live event will be available for purchase for $6 through the league Web site, www.unitedindoorfootball.com, and B2’s event Web site, www.b2livetv.com.
