Raptors looking for a few good men…and women

Rockford’s United Indoor Football League (UIFL) team the Rock River Raptors are looking for a few more good men and women.

After finding seven signees at the open tryouts last November, the Raptors have decided to hold another open tryout for the 2007 season.

The next chance to apply to coach Rik Richards for this year’s squad will be Friday, Jan. 26, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Indoor Sports Complex, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park. Registration forms are available at www.raptorsuif.com or by contacting the team office at 965-7000. Cost is $40 for those who pre-register by Jan. 25 and $50 for those who show up that day. Tryouts are open to the public and free of charge.

Calling the first round of tryouts a “big success,” Richards said, “We hope we can continue to fill our roster with some guys from this next tryout.”

Local ladies will also have an opportunity to join the Raptors. Not the football team, but the Raptors’ dance team the Dynomites. They, too, will hold a second round of auditions for their 2007 team.

Dynomites auditions will be Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Holiday Inn, 7550 E. State St., Rockford, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All applicants are asked to bring a recent full-length body photo, plenty to drink and lunch. A form-fitted, two-piece outfit with dance or athletic shoes is mandatory. A $20 non-refundable application fee is required. Applications are on the team’s Web site, or at the team’s office, 110 N. Main St., Rockford.
