The River District Association has announced its first Black Tie Gala Dinner Dance, Red Ball, for Saturday, Oct. 4, at the beautiful and elegant Rockford Country Club overlooking the Rock River, 2500 Oxford St., from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Cost of the event is $100 per person (tables of 10 available for $1,000, which includes a table sponsorship sign). Valet parking is included. Proceeds benefit River District Association and the Boat Docks Fund.
Red Ball Sponsors are AMCORE Bank, Bradley & Bradley Architects Engineers, FOX 39, Imicci, National City Bank, Lorden Distributing Company, SupplyCore, Inc., Title Underwriters, and Vincent, Doepke Investments. Their support and generosity are greatly appreciated.
The theme of the event, as conceived by photographer Val Olafson, is Red Ball. The goal is to create an edgy, playful approach to the traditional black tie fund-raiser by using the image of a red ball to convey the fun and enthusiastic essence of downtown, with red representing the vitality that can be found there. For instance, the invitation to this event, as interpreted by Jeff Edwards of Imicci, features several black and white photographs of downtown buildings or spaces, with a red ball resting in front of each one, some big and some small.
Music will be provided by Gardenia House Band at 6:30 p.m.; also enjoy cocktails and hors doeuvres. Listen to piano music while enjoying a gourmet dinner at 7:30 p.m. Music and dancing begins at 8:30 p.m. with the lively music of Gardenia Big Band, a popular local favorite playing lots of swingin tunes for a fun and memorable evening. Other festivities include a live auction of a painting from local artist Keith Grace, a 50/50 cash drawing/$10 per raffle ticket (winner will be announced at the Gala; participants need not be present to win) and other fun items available for purchase.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Contact the River District at 964-6221, or 127 N. Wyman St., Rockford, IL 61101 to purchase tickets or for more information.
