Red Cross launches ‘Heroes’ campaign

The Rock River Chapter of the American Red Cross is launching its second annual “Heroes” campaign. This is a local fund-raising and awareness building campaign.

It’s called “Heroes for the American Red Cross,” a community-wide, grassroots effort designed to ensure the emergency needs of this community are met this year and in the years ahead.

Dr. Paul Pribbenow, president of Rockford College, will chair the second annual “Heroes” campaign for the Rock River Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The concept of “Heroes” is very simple: Dozens of local volunteers and businesses are recruited to serve as “Heroes” whose goal is to raise $1,000 or more to support the local programs and services offered by the Rock River Chapter. Funds can be raised in a variety of ways.

The fund-raising portion of the “Heroes” campaign will officially start from 3:30-5:30 p.m., April 29 at a kick-off celebration to be held at the Rockford Country Club. The “Heroes” campaign will end May 20.

Funds raised will support local Red Cross programs such as Armed Forces Emergency Services, Distaster Services, and single family and multi-family fires in the community.

Anyone interested in volunteering to be a “Hero” or in donating to the local Red Cross chapter is encouraged to call the Rock River Chapter at 963-8471.
