A first-ever Red Heel Sock Hop and Auction is set to kick off a weekend celebration of everything sock monkey at Midway Village & Museum Center from 7 to 10 p.m., Friday, April 7, in the museums Lakeview Rooms. Cost for the event is $35 per person or $30 per person for groups of 10 or more. Ticket includes hors doeuvres and entertainment. Reservations are required.
The Sock Hop will feature WROKs Riley ONeil as Midways own Dick Clark, dancing to a 50s DJ, fun cocktails, hors doeuvres from the 50s, and chances to bid on costumed sock monkeys.
The handmade, one-of-a-kind, themed-clad monkeys range from bikers to ballerinas, the Tin Man to Robert Tinker, pharmacists to chefs, surgeons to sunbathers. There will be sock monkeys representing Chicago teams, including the Cubs, White Sox and Bears.
