Reggae rhythms round


Hot Chicago band Baaro will appear in the finale of the Summer Series sponsored by Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, August 10. This free performance will be held in the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, 1401 N. Second St. A smash hit at previous Web events, Baaro will fill the park with their reggae, African and Chicago funk music.

Originally from Ethiopia, Baaro was Ziggy Marley’s Melody Makers from 1986-90, recording two platinum and gold albums with him. With Ziggy, they appeared on the David Letterman Show, the NAACP Image Awards, Soul Train, the Arsenio Hall Show, and on the BBC and Italian TV. They also toured all the major cities in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Western Europe. Now based in Chicago, Baaro is constantly performing at festivals, fairs, colleges and clubs throughout the Midwest.

The Charlotte’s Web Sinnissippi Summer Series is co-sponsored by the Rockford Park District and WNIJ-Radio.
