On Dec. 5 at the historic brewery that will soon be a marina, Republican Doug Mark announced his candidacy for third ward alderman. The third ward includes the River District portion of the city.

Mark’s co-chairs, State’s Attorney Paul Logli, county board members John Sweeney (R-14) and Rick Pollack (R-13) and Sen. Dave Syverson (R-34) cheered on Mark at his press conference.

“We’re thrilled and excited to announce my candidacy,” said Mark, with his wife, Sally, beside him. Mark has six children, Andy, 15; Tom, 14; Alison, 12; Charlie, 9; John, 6; and Matthew, 2. They reside at 1526 Harlem Boulevard.

Mark grew up in Rockford and has worked in the transportation industry since 1980. He is now a sales executive for Consolidated Freightways.

He is the Republican precinct committeeman, and he has held leadership positions at St. Peter School and the chairman position of the Education Commission at the school.

Mark pointed out that constituents should be aware of such issues as road repair and zoning. “We will work very hard to see the codes are enforced,” he added. Mark also noted that local government must provide support, assistance and funds for projects.
