Review for GRE scheduled at NIU
DeKalbAre you taking the GRE this summer? NIU has a review workshop scheduled that covers all the important aspects of this very important test.
The GRE (Graduate Records Exam) is required by many graduate programs. Test takers receive scores on verbal, math and analytical sections of the test. The review segments include reading comprehension; antonyms, analogies, and sentence completions; and mathematical skills.
The reading comprehension portion of the GMAT review includes evaluating text in order to read with understanding and discrimination. The antonyms, analogies, and sentence completion test the range of a students vocabulary and his or her ability to understand relationships between words. The math covered on the exam goes from arithmetic and factoring polynomials to weighted averages and principles of right triangles. The analytical writing measure is comprised of two essays: a 45-minute Present Your Perspective on an Issue and a 30-minute Analyze an Argument.
The first session of the workshop will be on Saturday, June 7, and will run for four Saturdays, through June 28. Steven Johnson, director, External Programs for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, says, This workshop has been offered for the last several years on campus.
Many older and returning students take the review workshop, he continued. The GRE is an exam required for all graduate schools.
Johnson said the course is open to everyone and is good to take just as a general refresher.
All sessions will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and/or 2-6 p.m. The fee for the refresher workshop is $495. If you are a full-time student or recent alumni, the fee is only $345. If you register before May 31, the fee is $445, or $295 for full-time students.
