River District Historical Walk-About Aug. 20

The River District Association’s third annual series of Historical Walk-Abouts continues Saturday, Aug. 20 with the annual favorite focus on the neighborhood of “Haight Village.” The outdoor walking tours are free and open to the public.

The Haight Village Historic District is in the heart of Rockford, just a couple blocks south of the River District’s central business corridor.

Walk-About patrons will enjoy strolling underneath a canopy of trees and taking in the scenes of the neighborhood: iron fences, cottage gardens, and beautiful home restorations.

Tour guides will point out the unique architectural features found on the exteriors of the Village residences, and will tell the story of Rockford’s early settlers who first called this neighborhood home.

This Walk-About is a teaser for the Haight Village Neighborhood Association’s Home and Garden Tour in September.

Walk-About starts at 10 a.m. and lasts for about two hours. Those interested in attending should meet at the corner of West State and North Main streets (on the north end of the Main Street Pedestrian Mall) in downtown Rockford. Free parking is available on the street and in nearby surface and parking decks.
