River District hosts Historical Walk-Abouts

This year marks the third year River District Association will host a series of Historical Walk-Abouts once a month (third Saturday of the month), April-October. The outdoor walking tours are free and open to the public.

Rockford has more than 150 years of history, and individuals are invited to join a volunteer guide to discover the rich architectural and historical legacy of Rockford’s downtown River District. They will see the beautiful urban landscape with the gorgeous Rock River, and the exterior of businesses, shops, restaurants, residences, churches, theaters, parks, and more. Plus, this is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise.

Start Time: 10 a.m. (lasts about two hours); arrive a few minutes early.

Meeting Location: West State and North Main streets, North side mall.

Parking: Free parking is available on the street and in nearby surface lots and parking decks.

Route: Different each month.

Cost: Free, reservations not required, open to the public.

2004 Dates: May 15, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18, Oct. 16

Historical Walk-Abouts are made possible by the generous contributions of the Sponsors: William Charles Investments, Inc. (www.williamcharles.com) and Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (www.gorockford.com).
