Rockford Mass Transit District (RMTD) and the Rockford Park District announce that effective Aug. 1, any person who goes to Magic Waters Waterpark on a RMTD bus will get $2 off on general admission to the water park. This offer is open to all RMTD riders and is good for the entire month of August.
RMTD began providing service to Magic Waters Waterpark Friday, May 25. Since that time, RMTD has run regular service to Magic Waters on the East State Street route during the day and on the Perryville route during its night service. Service to Magic Waters is hourly, and at times service is provided on a half-hour basis. Passengers are dropped off on North CherryVale Boulevard, directly in front of the entrance to the water park.
RMTD and the Rockford Park District are offering this promotion to encourage everyone to come to the water park as part of their summer vacation activities. Magic Waters Waterpark is definitely the place to be this summer, said RMTD Marketing Specialist Lisa J. Brown. Now that RMTD is able to provide service to Magic Waters, we want everyone to be able to take advantage of the bus service and the water park. That is why anyone who gets off at the Magic Waters stop will be given a coupon for $2 off admission from the RMTD driver. All the passengers have to do is pay their fare and get off at Magic Waters.
Since service to Magic Waters began in May, RMTD has seen about 25 riders per week utilize this stop.
Brown said: It is our hope to encourage ridership to this area. With the Park District providing us these discounted coupons, we hope everyone will try mass transit.
Fares to Magic Waters, or anywhere RMTD provides service, are $1 each way for adults, 50 cents each way for students, seniors and people with disabilities with appropriate ID. Transfers are free.
RMTD provides more than 1.5 million rides each year. The District has a fleet of 64 fixed route and paratransit vehicles, and offers 18 hours of service Monday-Friday, 13 hours of service Saturdays, and eight hours Sundays. RMTD also provides service to Loves Park and Machesney Park.
