Robert McCauley lectures at Rockford Art Museum

Women’s Art Board of Rockford Art Museum hosts the two remaining portions of its annual three-part Art Talks: A Lecture Series March 17 and April 14 in the theater of Riverfront Museum Park. Reservations are required and seating is limited. The first part was held Feb. 10.

Sponsored by Women’s Art Board, the 2006 series Movers & Shakers: Individuals in the Post-Modern Era is presented by contemporary artist Robert McCauley, professor and chairman of the Rockford College Art Department.

Works spanning two decades of McCauley’s artistic career were recently on display at Rockford Art Museum during the exhibition Robert McCauley: A Retrospective. McCauley builds on his provocative 2005 Art Talks series by discussing varied topics, including issues such as the written word in visual art and nature as culture. The two remaining talks are set as follows:

“Duchamp’s Hoax (and We Took Him Seriously)”—Noon to 1 p.m., Friday, March 7. Explores the evolution of the found object.

“Quotation, Quotation, Quotation”—Noon to 1 p.m., Friday, April 14. Explores the strategies of originality when originality no longer exists.

Reservations for the entire series are $25; single lectures are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. Reservations can be made by sending checks to: Women’s Art Board, 8024 Killarney Aire Rd., Roscoe, IL 61073. For reservation questions, call Nancy at 623-8676.
