The Barbara Olson Center of Hopes Sixth Annual Rock for the Center was a hit, thanks to the support of the community and area businesses. Local bands including The Hitmen, Fusion, Toad Soup and Clutch Cargo donated their time and talents at the Rockford Speedway Friday, June 2. This is the second year the event has been held at the Rockford Speedway. OSF Health Plans donated their hot-air balloon to the Center of Hope event for tethered-rides, and patrons experienced birds eye views of Rockford on the beautiful night.
The 2006 Rock for the Center raised more than $17,000 for the Barbara Olson Center of Hope. All proceeds will support the Barbara Olson Center of Hope, whose mission is to increase independence for people with special needs in a safe and positive place.
Generous sponsors for the Sixth annual Rock for the Center included: Rockford Health System Department of Anesthesiology, Jim Holder Heating & Air Conditioning, Northpoint Benefit Group, Inc., Alpine Bank/The Trust & Investment Group and Natures Cure.
In-kind sponsors were American Bottling Company Dr. Pepper/7-Up, Lorden Distributing, WREX, Channel 13 and ESPN 1380.
A trip for two to Las Vegas and a one-hour hot air balloon ride for six were the raffle highlights. Area businesses and individuals donated items for more than 50 fun-filled raffle baskets.
