Rock Valley College takes steps to improve athletic programs

Believing sports play an important role in the student experience at Rock Valley College, the college will, over the next year, address ways to provide a quality athletic program that emphasizes student success both in the classroom and on the field, develops character and instills a competitive spirit.

To accomplish this goal and its role in the developing student success model at RVC, Sports Coordinator and Head Football Coach Jeremy Warren will work with Student Development personnel on a student-athlete achievement model as well as provide academic advisement to student-athletes. By devoting the time and resources necessary to address these challenges, RVC is confident it will improve RVC athletics.

On another matter, and as the result of extensive discussions with divisional staff and an athletic advisory committee, the decision has been made to place the men’s and women’s soccer programs on hiatus for one year. Several factors were considered in this difficult decision. It was the last sport added to RVC Athletics (2002), consistently low numbers of players for women’s soccer and extensive opportunities to play soccer in the community.

Rock Valley College Athletic Director Dr. Stephanie Reach, says: “Though it was necessary to reduce the college’s financial commitment to the athletic program, these moves will give our students a better athletic experience by allowing us to focus on excelling at fewer sports for the coming year.”
