Rockford Art Museum hosts senior show

The public is invited to view an exhibit of art projects created by senior citizens who participate in the Rockford Art Museum’s START (Senior Time for Art) educational outreach program. Teachers Mary Milani and Joanne Person bring art experiences each month to area retirement homes and senior care facilities.

The exhibit opened in the lower level Artist in Residence Studio space July 27 and closes Aug. 30. An opening reception in honor of artists, families and caregivers will be held Sunday, Aug. 1 from 1-3 p.m.

Museum visitors coming to see the START show will be admitted free throughout the duration of the exhibit. Research confirms that art experiences are especially beneficial for elderly adults. The Museum currently seeks sponsors and funding for the program. The Rockford Art Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. Thursdays are free! Always call to schedule groups larger than six, or to advise the staff of special needs.

Rockford Art Museum is in the Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., Rockford.
