Rockford Art Museum’s Young Artist Show: High School Division opens March 11

Rockford Art Museum’s (RAM) eight-week 66th Young Artist Show begins Sunday, March 11, with a free, public opening and awards presentation of its High School Division, a juried competition that annually features exceptional artwork by students from schools within 50 miles of Rockford. Rockford artist Michelle Dorr and Northern Illinois University art professor Lee Sido served as the 2007 jurors.

Dorr has shown her work locally and nationally for more than 20 years, including at RAM and its annual Greenwich Village Art Fair. Primarily a self-taught artist, she is best known for her funky furniture, wall pieces and colorful animal portraits.

Sido is an accomplished artist and educator who heads the NIU sculpture program and formerly was chairman of the Department of Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Like Dorr, he has shown his work locally and nationally, including at RAM. Sido is the creator of Harmony Atlas, the massive map-like sculpture at Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza in Rockford.
