Rockford Business College presents mock trial

Rockford Business College’s Legal Department is proud to present its fifth mock trial, Reptile Ruling, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9. The trial will take place at the college in Room 205, and the public is invited to attend.

The all-school event will feature advanced paralegal majors acting as lawyers for the plaintiff and defendant, presenting the case of Bowen v. Serrano, nicknamed Reptile Ruling. The legal issues of this case include one student carrying a pet snake into a classroom and being sprayed with pepper spray because of a classmate’s fear of snakes. The plaintiff is suing for assault and battery. The defendant is counter-claiming strict liability.

The jury is comprised of students, staff and faculty of the college. Rockford attorneys and paralegals will be in attendance. Rockford Business College is located at 730 North Church St. For additional information, contact Attorney Pamela S. Gibson, Legal Department chairwoman at 965-8616, ext. 24.
