Rockford Dance Company presents Coppelia

Rockford Dance Company will present the comedy ballet, Coppelia, at the Coronado Theatre at 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, April 22. Tickets range from $15 to $60, and can be purchased at the MetroCentre or by calling (815) 968-5222.

Coppelia is probably the best-known comedy ballet, and certainly is the most often performed. Rockford Dance Company is proud to premiere this ballet in its entirety for the Rockford community.

Coppelia is much more than a funny piece. A breakaway from the sad, romantic ballets of the day, Coppelia was an immediate success appealing to families with its humor and vigorous dancing. The story centers on the doll, Coppelia, and her creator, Coppelius, who wants to make the doll come to life, and the antics of a young couple about to be wed. The music by Leo Delibes is exhilarating and powerful. It’s ideal fare for family entertainment.

AMCORE Bank and Janet Kjellstrom are sponsors of this production.
