Rockford Fire and Police Departments kick off Fourth Annual ‘Battle of the Badges’ blood drive challenge

The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) will launch the 2007 “Battle of the Badges” challenge between the Rockford Fire and Police departments at City Hall, Monday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special edition t-shirts, coupons for Damon’s Grill, and Drive Fore Life golf coupons will be given to all those who register to give blood on behalf of the fire or police departments.

The challenge will continue through Friday, Aug. 24, at the blood center, 419 N. Sixth St. or 3065 N. Perryville Road, Suite 105, Rockford. RRVBC will track donations, and the challenge will culminate with a closing trophy presentation by Mayor Larry Morrissey at the Monday, Aug. 27 City Council meeting. During registration, indicate to which department you would like your donation credited.

“Battle of the Badges” is a joint effort to heighten awareness about the need for blood donations and to assist the Rock River Valley Blood Center in maintaining an adequate supply throughout the summer months.

“We are honored to have the constant support we receive from the Rockford Police and Fire departments. This blood drive challenge is a lot of fun and helps to boost the dwindling summer blood supply prior to the Labor Day weekend,” said Jennifer Bowman, PR manager, RRVBC. “We applaud the efforts of these groups in helping to raise awareness about the lifesaving need for blood donations.”

RRVBC, along with local public servants, on behalf of the patients in hospitals, encourage the media and community to join with them and support this lifesaving effort.
