Now that all the snow is gone and the weather is starting to warm up a little bit, I, like many other Rockfordians, start to think about golf. The Elliot golf course driving range opened this past week. Unfortunately, the course wont be open until the ground completely dries. We hope that will be very soon.
Even if we cant get out and play just yet, we still have a place to get instructional tips, information about Park District tournaments and other news concerning the world of golf. For the second season, Rockford Golfs is back on the air. The one-hour radio program will run live every Saturday from 7 to 8 a.m. on Newstalk 1440 WROK.
Rockford Park District employee Paul Arco hosts the informative program. He will be joined weekly by a rotating group of co-hosts from the Park District, including Dave Claeyssens and Nancy Kauzlarich, managers of golf services; and Duncan Geddes, the head professional and manager of Aldeen Golf Club. Steve D. Moore, coordinator of golf instruction, and Lloyd McWilliams, a five-time mens city champion, will give listeners tips and ideas about how to improve their games.
The show will also include a chance for listeners to win incredible golf packages from not only the Park Districts courses, but also from regional courses such as The General at Eagle Ridge, Geneva National and University Ridge near Madison.
Last season, the show gave local golf fans some great interviews with stars from the PGA. Billy Mayfair, Steve Stricker, Adam Scott and Luke Donald all made guest appearances on the program.
We are looking forward to an even better year of talking golf on WROK, said Karen Weis, manager of Marketing and Public Relations for the Rockford Park District. We know Rockford is legendary for great golf courses, and last year, golfers showed that they are passionate about having their own show, too. We hope people will tune in, participate in contests and, of course, be entertained.
The in-studio number to call Saturday mornings is 815-398-9765.
