Rockford Institute to host Invasion Iraq: Yea or Nay?

The Rockford Institute will host a public forum at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, at its offices at 928 N. Main St., to launch the Feb. 2003 issue of the Institute’s monthly magazine, Chronicles, which asks—and answers—questions that are being ignored as the president and his defense secretary prepare for war.

The issue, “Target Iraq,” explores in-depth:

l History’s warnings about the region;

l Whose interests the war would serve and the likely political ramifications;

l The almost entirely ignored Russian perspective; and

l An invasion of Iraq and just-war theory.

Speaking at the forum will be Chronicles Editor and Rockford Institute President Dr. Thomas Fleming, who will provide the perspective of ancient history; and Dr. Srdja Trifkovic, Chronicles foreign-affairs editor, who will discuss the practical politics at stake.

The special guest speaker will be Purdue University’s Notre Dame Theologian in Residence Thomas Ryba, who will explain whether an invasion of Iraq would meet the criteria for a just war. Ryba, who also teaches philosophy and Jewish studies at Purdue, serves on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Catholic-Muslim Dialogue.

For information or to reserve a space at the forum, contact Christopher Check, executive vice president, at (815) 964-5811.
