Physicians and employees of Rockford Orthopedic Associates (ROA), Rockfords largest full-service orthopedic clinic, rehabilitation and surgical center, have come together to help raise funds for the Hunger Connection, branch of Northern Illinois Food Bank. ROA donated $18,000making ROA one of the largest single supporters of Hunger Connections mission.
In November, Hunger Connection received a call from ROA representatives who reported that their organization wished to support the fight against hunger in northern Illinois. Arrangements were made with the new partnership, with no exact dollar amount in mind, ROA began its fund-raising efforts. At the annual holiday party held at Cliffbreakers, the initial check was presented to H. Dennis Smith, executive director of NIFB, who said their donation would make possible for the Food Bank to provide 138,000 meals to folks in need.
The overwhelming support from the staff of ROA has been tremendous. Since the party, additional funds have come inthe presentation on Dec. 21 included all funds related to ROAs fund-raising efforts. Dr. Brian Bear, CEO of Rockford Orthopedic Associates, said, We are delighted to donate to the Hunger Connection and help provide food assistance to those in Rockford and surrounding communities.
ROAs donation will be used in the general feeding programespecially in securing protein for Hunger Connections nearly 130 agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, congregate meal sites and other food assistance programs in its five-county service area.
The Hunger Connection serves Boone, DeKalb, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago counties, with combined population of 499,756, of which 48,725 are at or below the poverty income line, and many others are in need of Hunger Connection services.
