Adventure awaits outdoor campers

Rockford Park District’s Summer Adventure Camps provide youth and teens ages 11-17 with a uniquely challenging and rewarding growth experience while learning outdoor camping, biking, and hiking skills in a team environment.

Three different co-ed camping trips are scheduled for June or July: Illinois/Michigan Canal Bike Camp (ages 11-17), Adventure Tent Camp with High Ropes (ages 13-17), and Kettle Moraine Tent/Backpacking Camp (ages 13-17).

Participants will enjoy hiking or biking through the scenic beauty of state parks by day, followed by outdoor cooking and camping under the stars.

Mail-in registration begins Wednesday, March 10; completed registration forms with payment will be accepted by mail on a first come, first served basis at the Rockford Park District Sinnissippi Park Office, 1401 N. 2nd St.

Registration will also be available at the Summer Fun Expo,Saturday, April 17, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Kennedy Middle School, 4664 N. Rockton Ave.

Registration brochures with camp descriptions, schedules, and fees will be available in early March at Park District facilities, the Sinnissippi Park Office, or by calling 987-8800 (TTY, 963-DEAF).

3-on-3 adult hockey tournament

Rockford Park District’s Riverview Ice House will host a Guy Mackovolich 3-on-3 Adult Holiday Hockey Tournament, March 27-28.

The self-officiated tournament is open to senior level players age 18 and over, with competition divided into three skill levels, as well as separate divisions for women and goalies.

The team entry fee is $125 for a five-person roster, or $35 for goalies, who register as individuals for play in their own division.

The registration and payment deadline for teams and goalies is March 18, by mail or in person at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Rd., Loves Park.

Golf indoors

Golfers can keep their game going through the winter at Rockford’s only indoor golf range, located at Rockford Park District’s Wedgbury Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park.

Hours through March are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
