Rockford Reads in need of enthusiastic volunteers

Today, there is no greater educational challenge than to make sure every child learns to read. Rockford Reads, a collaborative tutoring partnership between the Rockford Public Schools, the downtown Rotary Club, and the Rockford Public Library, needs volunteers to read one-on-one with second grade students.

Rockford Reads would like to provide students with the undivided attention of an adult who listens, is supportive and offers encouragement. Each child in the program will receive, at the minimum, a half-hour tutoring session each week. The commitment of the volunteer is especially important to children. When volunteers appear consistently every week, enthusiastic and ready to read, children begin to feel special. The Rockford Public Schools is proud of the impact volunteers are having on children by making their reading experiences entertaining, relaxing and enjoyable.
