Rockford Symphony Orchestra hosts Enso Quartet
Rockford Symphony Orchestra will present Bows and Strings, the fifth in its Classics Series, at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Coronado Theatre.
Music Director Steven Larsen and the RSO are proud to welcome the Enso Quartet for an evening of intricate melodies and enchanting harmonies. The quartet will perform Ernest Blochs Concerto Grosso No. 2 with the orchestra. Then audiences will enjoy Mozarts Suymphony No. 36, written just days after a music-loving count from Linz, Austria, asked the composer to stage an impromptu concert. The Linz quickly became one of Mozarts favorite symphonies, and has been loved by audiences throughout the world. The evening concludes with Maurice Ravels Pavane pour une infante defunte (Pavane for a dead princess) and Henry Purcells The Gordian Knot Untyd.
Weve enjoyed having members of NIUs resident graduate string quartets play with the RSO for several years. Theyre all first-rate players. But the members of the Enso Quartet have been a particular joy to work with, and I thought it would be wonderful to feature them as soloists, said Steven Larsen, music director.
The Enso Quartet, comprised of violinists Maureen Nelson and Tereza Stanislav, violist Rob Brophy and cellist Richard Belcher, was formed at Yale University in 1999. The quartet has performed in concert series throughout New England, the Chicago area and Detroit. Currently, the resident quartet at Northern Illinois University, they have been mentored by the Tokyo Quartet, the Vermeer Quartet, Paul Katz, Peter Oundjian and Miriam Fried. Recent performance highlights include appearances at the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, SummerFest La Jolla, the Mostly Music and Dame Myra Hess series in Chicago, and a concerto performance with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra.
Single tickets for this performance are $14, $25 or $32, student tickets (up to age 18) are $5. This performance, part of the Hamilton Sundstrand Classics Series, is sponsored by Alpine Bank.
