Rockford Writers’ Guild holds poetry, prose contest

Rockford Writers’ Guild is sponsoring an Ides of March Poetry & Prose Contest in adult and youth categories with entries due no later than March 15.

A single short fiction or dramatic script entry may be a maximum of 1,300 words. A poem may go up to 50 lines on any theme. Multiple entries are welcome. A $5 entry fee must accompany each piece of prose. A $5 fee must also accompany each poetry entry, which includes up to three poems per fee.

Cash prizes will be awarded in adult and youth (18 and younger) categories. The amount will be determined by the number of entries submitted. The Guild is a nonprofit writers’ group, and all money collected will be returned as prizes. The target for first-place entries is $50.

Winning entries will be considered for publication in Rockford Review literary magazine. Contestants will also be invited to the Guild’s Gala Reading & Reception this summer.

Entries must be previously unpublished and original work of the individual who is submitting it. On a cover page, include the title, complete address, phone and e-mail (if applicable). Youth entries must contain the age and school of the writer.

Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with appropriate cash or check payable to Rockford Writers’ Guild Contest. For more information, contact David Ross, Guild president, by phone mornings only at 963-2098 or e-mail
