The Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) will present its annual spring concert at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 5, in the Coronado Theatre, 314 N. Main St., Rockford.
Tickets for the concert are $12 for adults and $8 for students, and are available through the RSO Box Office by calling (815) 965-0049, or online at rockfordsymphony.com. Tickets the day of the concert are available at the Coronado Box Office for $15 for adults and $10 for students.
The RSYO is led by conductor Dr. Alison Gaines, and is composed of 70 middle and high school musicians representing Auburn, Belvidere, Boylan, Byron, Christian Life, Forreston, Freeport, Guilford, Harlem, Hononegah, Lutheran, Pecatonica, Rockford Christian, Stillman Valley, Newman, and Winnebago high schools; Keith Country Day School; West and Winnebago middle schools; and home schools from across a five-county area.
The concert includes guest performances by: Alon Goldstein, guest pianist for the RSO Beethoven Festival; the Rock Valley College Concert Choir; the RVC Chamber Singers; and the RVC Womens Choir, all under the direction of Mr. Paul LaPrade, and Kyle Kraus, first prize winner of the RSO/RVC 2006 Concerto Competition.
Goldstein and the RVC Choir join the RSYO on Beethoven Choral Fantasy; Kyle will perform the second movement of the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Felix Mendelssohn. Also on the program are works by Bach, Brahms, Liszt and Vaughn-Williams. A reception honoring the seniors immediately follows the performance in the Coronado rehearsal room.
