Rockford’s Winter Rocks kicks off

Rockford’s Winter Rocks 2006 celebration includes numerous activities and events planned from mid-January through mid-March, including seven themed weekends—from music-filled nights to girls’ getaways to family-friendly activities and sports-packed days.

The seven Winter Rocks themed weekends are as follows:

Winter Wonderland, Jan. 18-22: Enjoy Rockford on ice with snow sculpting in Sinnissippi Park, ice skating at Sinnissippi Lagoon and local icehouses and Rockford’s first snowman-building contest.

Mozart Mania, Jan. 27-29: Rockford honors the late, great composer with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra’s Mozart Tribute and Mendelssohn Goes Mad for Mozart at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center.

Young at Heart, Feb. 3-5: Kids’ cultural programs, young artist shows and hot rod racing will make you feel like a kid again!

MGD Live Music Walk, Feb.10-12: Prepare to dance the night away as eight establishments bring the downtown to life during the MGD Live Music Walk.

Centre Events’ Escape from Cabin Fever, Feb. 17-19: Get your mind off the snow and on to summer vacation at Showtime Productions’ Boat, Vacation and Outdoor Show at the MetroCentre.

Bud Light Pardi Gras, Feb. 24-27: State Street becomes Bourbon Street in Rockford’s River District as LaMonica Beverages presents the Bud Light Pardi Gras Music Walk.

Girls’ Getaway Weekend Sponsored by Benson Stone Company, March 3-5: Girls just want to have fun in the Rockford region! Enjoy female-focused performances and great shopping during this girls-only weekend.
