Music Director Steven Larsen and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra will be joined by violinist Rachel Barton Pine at 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Coronado Theatre. This concert is sponsored by Forest City Gear.
The orchestra is honored to be premiering Stillness, a RSO-commissioned piece by Judith Zaimont for the 70th Anniversary celebration. The orchestra will also feature Bachianas Brasieiras by Brazils leading composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. The second in a nine-suite series, the piece combines stylistic influences of J.S. Bach and Brazilian folk music.
Rachel Barton Pine will close the concert with a performance of Jean Sibelius only violin concerto, a hauntingly lyrical masterpiece reflecting the composers Nordic homeland. A native of Chicago, Pine has appeared as a soloist with many of the worlds most prestigious ensembles, including the Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas and Baltimore symphonies. She made her professional debut at age 7, and at ages 10 and 14 made her earliest appearances with the Chicago Symphony, broadcast for television.
