A northern Illinois tradition, the Rockford Symphony Orchestra (RSO) presents two performances of the 2006 Holiday Pops in the beautiful Coronado Theatre in downtown Rockford at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 and 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17. This concert will be recorded by WREX Channel 13 and broadcast over the holiday season.
Joining Maestro Steven Larsen for this premiere holiday performance is special guest Jodi Beach, as well as the Mendelssohn Chorale, led by Martha Bein. The concert will feature a wonderful blend of sacred and traditional holiday melodies, including the Hayman arrangement of Carol of the Bells, Handels Joy to the World, Mel Tourmes The Christmas Song, plus a selection of holiday favorites sung by Beach.
A brass ensemble from the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) will perform beloved holiday tunes for 30 minutes before each of the Holiday Pops concerts in the lobby of the Coronado Theatre. The RSYO performs under the direction of conductor Alison Gaines. Gaines is in her third year as the youth symphony conductor, and serves as principal bass in the RSO.
