A benefit for Angela Rushford, the 5-year-old Rockford girl who underwent a kidney transplant Jan. 3 in attempts to correct polycystic renal failure, will be from noon until midnight Saturday, Feb. 22, at Moose Lodge No. 1551, 101 Moose Dr., Mount Morris.
Event organizer and Angelas donor, 38-year-old David Harper of Mount Morris, said the event is coming together, although it is in need of larger items for the auction.
It would be nice if we had some bigger items such as a TV or a car, Harper said. Its all tax-deductible.
The biggest items for auction at the time of publication included a football autographed by the Green Bay Packers and a package of five season passes to Rockford Park District golf courses.
Harper said organizers have been trying to get a guest celebrity to make an appearance, although none have yet agreed to appear. He said they have been in contact with the Green Bay Packers (they had been trying to get quarterback Brett Favre to appear, but he is unable to attend, Harper said) and have been trying to get a music celebrity to make an appearance.
Harper said about 2,000 people are expected to attend throughout the day.
The tentative schedule is as follows: Elvis Presley impersonator Chris Corcoran, noon-1 p.m.; Rockford Lightning cheerleaders, 1-1:30 p.m.; Gotham City Band 1:30-3 p.m.; live auction, 3-6 p.m.; ModelOne (rock band), 6 p.m.-9 p.m.; and Johnsons Alibi, 9 p.m.-midnight. Two comedians will fill in during band breaks between noon and 6 p.m., and Chris Corcoran will host karaoke between breaks from 6-midnight. The Rockford Lightning cheerleaders will also sign autographs from 1:30-3 p.m. U.S. Rep. Don Manzullo (R-16) will kick off the auction.
Cost is $5 at the door and includes spaghetti dinner, salad, garlic bread, one drink and admission to all events. Donations are also being taken at Union Savings Bank, c/o Angela Rushford Benefit, Mount Morris, IL 61054.
