Rushford Fund reaches $13,373.62

Donations to the Angela Rushford Children’s Organ Donation Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL), have reached $13,373.62.

A recent $5,000 donation from the Georgia-Pacific Corporation in recognition of donor David Harper’s grand prize in The Drive for Brawny HeroesTM Contest pushed the total above the $10,000 mark. Widespread media attention, including appearances by the Rushford family and Harper on The Sharon Osbourne Show and PAX TV’s It’s A Miracle, have also helped boost donations.

The Angela Rushford Children’s Organ Donation Fund was established in January 2003, shortly after Angela, then 5, received a life-saving kidney transplant from Harper, who replied to a free classified ad in The Rock River Times.

Harper and Angela’s father, Tony Rushford, established the fund just weeks after the transplant surgery, and continue to serve as co-chairmen of the fund, which will be awarded to qualifying families with children in need of an organ transplant.
