RVC donates to Scott campaign

Rock Valley College’s Starlight Theater made a $192 in-kind contribution to Rockford Mayor Doug Scott’s re-election campaign March 6.

State records show the college’s theater made the contribution as a gift for an auction.

Mike Robinson, director of public relations at RVC, said: “A former student solicited tickets for an unidentified silent auction. There was an assumption that it was for a social service not-for-profit in the community. Had Rock Valley College known the gift was to the Scott For Mayor Campaign, it would not have been given because RVC is well aware it has no role it supporting any political candidate.”

The donation was not the first time the school has contributed to politicians. Former RVC President Roland Chapdelaine twice used taxpayer funds to donate a total of $100 to State Rep. Dave Winters’ (R-69) campaign. Chapdelaine allegedly reimbursed the college for the contributions after The Rock River Times submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for Chapdelaine’s college-related financial records.
