National Research Corporation (NRC) recently named OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center a 2004/05 Consumer Choice Award winner. OSF Saint Anthony also was named a Consumer Choice Award winner in 2002 and 2003.
The award places OSF Saint Anthony among the nations top hospitals consumers have rated as having the highest quality and image in 154 markets throughout the United States. The award announcement appears in Modern Healthcare, a weekly magazine for health care professionals.
We are pleased and proud to receive this award on behalf of the Sisters, staff and physicians who provide the quality care that made it possible, said Dave Schertz, administrator/CEO of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Dedication to providing the highest quality health care possible is at the very core of the Sisters Mission to serve persons with the greatest care and love. I know that is why the people in northern Illinois named us as a quality provider for the third year in a row.
This is the ninth year NRC, a recognized innovator and leader in health care performance measurement, has honored those hospitals whose consumers have recognized them for providing quality health care services. Winners are determined by consumers perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in NRCs Health care Market Guide study. The nationally syndicated study is conducted annually to compile consumer assessments of their health plans, personal physicians, local hospitals and health systems as well as their current health status. The study entails a self-administered questionnaire, which respondents received by mail. The questionnaires were mailed April 6 to 240,000 U.S. households. When returns closed on June 28, responses were received from more than 140,000 households, with the primary health care decision-maker of each household being the actual respondent.
Of the 3,000 hospitals named by consumers in the study, the winning facilities rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Areas, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The 2004/2005 Health care Market Guide is the nations largest and most comprehensive study of its kind, according to NRC. No other study used to rate hospitals contains more consumer responses than NRCs study. At the 95 percent confidence level, the studys resulting error range is plus or minus 0.26 percent. Co-winners are named when scores fall within the statistical margin of error for a given market.
According to NRC CEO Michael Hays: Consumers are continuing to play an increasing role in their selection of health care facilities and services. With the industrys shift to a consumer-driven model, we are pleased to recognize the health care organizations named as leaders by those they serve. The winners deserve recognition for the emphasis they have placed on providing quality care.
OSF Saint Anthonys sister hospital, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, was also named a Consumer Choice Award winner. OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is a member of OSF HealthCare, an affiliated corporation of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.
