Saleing Rt. 75 a profitable opportunity for groups

“Hundreds of people are coming, and they have money to spend,” says Steve Gant, co-chairman of the Saleing Rt 75 garage sale committee. “Besides great bargains, they’ll be looking for drinks, snacks, meals and more. With a little resourcefulness, Saleing Rt. 75 is a profitable opportunity for churches, clubs, social groups and others who want to raise funds.”

Saleing Rt. 75, Illinois’ longest garage sale, is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 2-4. The sale goes from I-90 and Rockton Road to just west of Dakota, primarily along Illinois Rt. 75. Towns participating are Rockton, Harrison, Shirland, Durand, Davis, Rock City and Dakota. All are in Illinois.

“Over the last three years, we’ve seen groups not only raise money through sales of refreshments, but also by renting space, such as in a church parking lot, to people selling crafts and flea market items,” says Gant.

“During the sale, many places selling food can’t keep up with the crowds. Die-hard salers sometimes just want to grab something and keep going. A church or other organization providing food, and publicizing it, can help our visitors and their organization.”

The Saleing Rt. 75 committee is offering non-profit groups the opportunity to register as an official sponsor for $15. Participants receive a large, official sponsorship sign, listing on the event’s Web site, and other promotional considerations. To register in Rockton call 624-7625

Groups can obtain business sponsorship forms and other information from the event’s Web site— —or by calling 248-3166.
