Saturn of Rockford has been named recipient of Americas Blood Centers (ABC) national Award of Excellence for the most creative Saturn Donor Day campaign for 2006.
Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) nominated Saturn of Rockford for the award, highlighting Saturn of Rockfords dedication and commitment to blood donation as well as increasing awareness and registration for marrow, tissue and organ donation.
The Saturn Donor Day campaign, which turned 10 this year, is a national partnership between Saturn Dealers, the UAW and organizations focused on saving lives through blood, marrow, organ and tissue donations.
Saturn of Rockford has been a national leader throughout this program, and has hosted drives that have collected 1,032 units of blood, including 451 new donors in 10 years.
In 2006, the event at Saturn of Rockford welcomed 225 donors, setting a record for the largest one-day blood drive in RRVBCs history. Just last weekend, Saturn broke their own record with 226 donors attending.
George Schaffner, Saturn of Rockford GM, and the entire Saturn of Rockford family have a genuine interest in our mission, said Linda Gerber, CEO for RRVBC. They have made a significant difference in this community, putting forth tremendous effort to make sure the blood supply in the Rock River Valley is sufficient to meet the needs of area patients.
Member blood centers, including RRVBC, submit nominations to ABC each year. This year, Saturn of Rockford received top honors.
