Second Annual Rock River Valley Celtic Fest
The Second Annual Rock River Valley Celtic Fest will take place Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21 at Riverside Park (Highway 251 and Bridge Street) in Roscoe, Ill.
This year there is more entertainment and three large tents with stages under each of them. Continuous music will play all day long, with bands from Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison, to name a few. Many local bands will also participate. There will be 24 Celtic bands (Traditional Irish and Scottish, Celtic with a Beat, and a little bit of country), Highland Fling and Irish Step dancers, pipe bands and Highland style games. Special guests will be the Mayer School of Irish Dance, the McNulty School of Irish Dance and Hannah Gough.
New athletic events have been added. The United States of America Tug of War Association (USATOW) has awarded the third and final qualifying event to the organizers of the Rock River Valley Celtic Fest. The event will determine the USA Championship Teams qualifying for the World Championships to be held in South Africa. The organizers of Celtic Fest are honored to have them compete at this event. Also, soccer, rugby and cricket will be played.
A local re-enactor group, Clan Chattan, in period costumes, will furnish storytelling and perform vignettes of the era. Make sure you visit them and get water tortureda great way to cool off on a hot day!
For youngsters, the childrens area will feature storytellers, craft making, face painting, a petting zoo, and wagon rides in the playground area.
Plenty of food, beverages and Celtic merchandise will be available from a variety of vendors, including one from Texas. They will sell anything from CDs, Celtic jewelry, Celtic crosses and knives. Typical fair food will also be available.
Advance tickets are $12 for two days, a savings of $2. Tickets are on sale at: The Tin Whistle, North Main and Auburn; the Rockford and Beloit Convention and Visitors bureaus, all Hilander stores, and the Roscoe Chamber of Comerce, The Irish Rose in Rockford and Irish Rose North in Rockton. Tickets at the gate are $7 per day. Children 9 and under are admitted free. Free parking is available at the park.
