Second Saturday's gathering to feature Mayor Doug Scott

Second Saturday’s is a monthly, minority, business owners’ networking event. This event will take place every “Second Saturday” in 2005.

Women’s History Month’s Second Saturday event kicks off with Mayor Doug Scott as the speaker on March 12.

The mission is to “empower and unite” Rockford and surrounding areas minority business owners.

The 2005 location is the Courtyard Marriott, 7676 E. State St. Second Saturday’s will have various corporate sponsors throughout the year. Hot 105.9 FM of Janesville, Wis., is the Radio Sponsor.

The event will start at 5 p.m. with a “meet and greet” reception. Around 6:15 p.m., the guest empowerment speaker will address the attendees.

Door prizes, business networking, 105.9 FM giveaways, poetry slams, live entertainment and guest DJ Triple X will carry the evening on until around 9 p.m. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Vendor and display booths are available. Admission is $5 per attendee.

The Second Saturday’s committee members are Robert King (banker—Bank One, Loves Park), Christine Sledge (Morrissey for Mayor office), Arthur “A.J.” Jackson (educator—New Milford Elementary), Calvin Squire (executive director of Booker Washington Community Center), Antar Baker (staff writer—Minority Journal) and Tamiko Stewart (editor—Minority Journal).
