Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption extended

More Winnebago County senior citizen homeowners may be eligible for the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption due to recent legislation signed into law by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Senate Bill 2112, now Public Act 93-0715, increases the maximum household income level for eligibility for the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption from $40,000 to $45,000. This act is effective for the 2004 assessment year, taxes payable in 2005.

Although the normal filing deadline for this exemption is July 1, Winnebago County has extended the filing deadline, for 2004 only, until Nov. 1. This will allow those senior citizens who now qualify due to the household income level increase to file a PTAX-340 form (2004 Application and Affidavit for Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption).

If you have any questions or to obtain a copy of this form, contact the Winnebago County Supervisor of Assessments Office by calling (815) 987-3024 or visiting the office at the Winnebago County Administration Building, 404 Elm St., Room 403, Rockford, IL. 61101 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
