The Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti, with special guests from One Drum, David Stocker and Jan Sebon, will present a benefit concert for St. Joseph Home for Boys in Port au Prince, Haiti, at 7 p.m., Sept. 18 at Keith School Commons. Cost is a suggested donation of $10.
In dance, drumming and narrative, the young performers will share a story about their own resurrection from the streets of the capital city of Haiti. Their story parallels the hopes and desires of the most economically impoverished nation in the Western Hemisphere.
The company was formed under the artistic direction of Dr. Chuck Davis, and has toured several times to America. This visit to Rockford will raise funds to start a bakery in rural Jacmel province, and is part of a series of events of the International Days of Peace.
For ticket reservations or information, call 815-979-1720. Tax-deductible donation checks can be made out to Hearts With Haiti. For more about The Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti, visit www.haitidancetheater.com.
