Sexual abstinence education program parent seminar


The Boone County Department of Public Health in cooperation with Boone County public and private schools, will hold a parent seminar at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Belvidere South Middle School, 919 East Sixth St. The featured guest speaker will be Scott Phelps, director of Program Development for Project Reality in Glenview, Ill. Phelps speaks to thousands of teens in Chicago Public High Schools annually about choosing sexual abstinence and provides training seminars nationwide for abstinence educators. Phelps is also the co-author of “Game Plan,” the sexual abstinence curriculum that Boone County schools will be using this year.

Schools participating in the abstinence education program in Boone County include: Belvidere Central Middle School; Belvidere South Middle School; Capron Elementary; Immanuel Lutheran School; Manchester Elementary; North Boone Elementary; Poplar Grove Elementary; and Saint James School.

This parent seminar will help parents talk to their children about sexual issues and encourage their children to choose sexual abstinence until marriage.
