Subject of upcoming film shares his story at Shelter Care Ministries’ annual luncheon May 5

Shelter Care Ministries’ (SCM) annual spring luncheon Thursday, May 5, offers the rags-to-riches story of Chris Gardner, subject of the upcoming film Pursuit of Happiness, starring Will Smith.

Gardner’s inspirational life story was recently detailed in a profile on 20/20. Just 20 years ago, Gardner was homeless with a young child, living at times in the bathroom of a subway station. He now owns his own brokerage firm, Chicago’s Gardner Rich & Co., gives back to the community, and is very successful. He received assistance from an agency similar to SCM that helped him become the person he is today.

The luncheon begins at noon at Tebala Shrine Temple with food provided by the Hoffman House. All proceeds go to SCM’s Housing Program. For more information, contact Todd Bonzi, SCM’s director of development, at 964-5520.
