Shoes for the Shoeless Campaign

Wondering what to do with the shoes and boots in your closet as you purchase new ones for the winter season? The Rockford Post Office can help!

Bring new and gently used (in good repair) men’s, women’s and children’s shoes and boots to any Rockford post office for donation to those who are in need. Each of the lobbies has a recycling container ready to “recycle” your shoes.

“This is the sixth year that postal employees have been donating shoes,” said Postmaster Ronald A. Calloway. “The community has generously joined with our postal family with over 1300 pairs donated in 2000. We are asking our customers to join with us to fill a mail truck with boots and shoes.” Boots and shoes are being collected through Friday, Nov. 23, 2001. The shoes will be donated to the Rockford Rescue Mission and local ministries to help ensure the homeless, and those in need will have boots and shoes on their feet as the cold weather sets in.

“Our community has always helped those in need. This is a great way to help recycle last season’s serviceable boots and shoes with community pride,” said Calloway. Postal lobby locations accepting donations are: Broadway Station, 1140 Broadway; Downtown Station, 401 S. Main St.; East Rockford Station, 111 N. 6th St.; Kilburn Station, 2440 Kilburn Ave.; Main Post Office, 5225 Harrison Ave.; New Towne Station, 557 S. New Towne Dr.; Park Branch, 1702 Windsor Road.
