Sierra Club director to speak here
Jack Darin, executive director of the Illinois Sierra Club, will speak in Rockford Thursday night, March 15. Darin will appear at the Rockford Park District headquarters building in Sinnissippi Park at 7:30 p.m.
He is coordinating a statewide effort to control urban sprawl, particularly around the Chicago area.
Unplanned development can result in damage to natural areas, farmland, open space and water and air quality. Darin will explain the Sierra Clubs new Sprawlternatives campaign and will report on the current debate in Springfield on growth policy matters.
The Sierra Club is backing several measures designed to protect high-quality streams from sprawl pollution and checking the growth of the Illinois Tollway.
Information will be offered about how to tie into local campaigns to achieve such goals.
