Sierra Club hosts Earth Day dinner and program

Blackhawk Sierra Club will host a vegetarian dinner to celebrate Earth Day, co-sponsored with Rockford Urban Ministries. The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 28, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner St., and includes salad and a vegetarian lasagna with tofu cheese, bread and a dessert.

The public is invited to the dinner. The price is $12 for the dinner. Reservations can be made by calling (815) 234-5485; the program is free. Following the dinner will be a special appearance of the “Green Elvis,” an Elvis impersonator who sings the King’s standards with an environmental twist. Then Blackhawk Sierra Club will report on the latest listing of the “Nasty 9” and “Terrific 10” developments in the area. Robert Uram, Midwest Sierra Club representative, will speak about “Breathing Easier,” a discussion on the U.S. government’s changes of the Air Quality Act.

Make check payable to “Blackhawk Sierra Club” and send to: P.O. Box 8976, Rockford, IL 61126. Information: Stanley Campbell, conservation chair, 964-7111.
