Sigma Alpha Iota has 50th anniversary

The Rockford Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota is celebrating its 50th anniversary at 4 p.m., Sunday, May 21 with a musicale and dinner at Forest Hills Country Club, 5135 Forest Hills Rd.

Sigma Alpha Iota is a national fraternity for women in music. The local chapter gathers monthly for fellowship and a musicale.

Chapter members continue to be active as public school and private music teachers, performers in Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center and numerous houses of worship and members of boards and leaders of many local musical organizations.

The chapter gives an award to two high school seniors annually, and supports music education by gathering information about performances and submitting it to the local newspaper.

Regionally, the alumnae chapter is part of a Chicago-area province with five alumnae and five college chapters. The chapter is closely associated and supportive of the Beta Mu Chapter at Northern Illinois University.
