Six ’Hogs named to All-Star squad

Six Rockford IceHogs will represent the Western Conference in the United Hockey League’s annual All-Star game one week from today. This year’s East vs. West match-up will be played in Fort Wayne, Ind., Jan. 17.

Defenseman Nathan Lutz will make his second appearance as an IceHogs All-Star. He played in the 2005 game in Adirondack. Joining Lutz in Fort Wayne will be fellow defenseman Matt Gens, goaltender Frederic Cloutier and forwards Kevin Ulanski, Nicolas Corbeil and Kaleb Betts.

The line combination of Ulanski, Corbeil and Betts made the squad based on their consistency. Ulanski has led the ’Hogs in scoring for nearly two months. At press time, he had 8 goals and 22 assists for a total of 30 points. Corbeil and Betts have benefited from most of Ulanski’s team-leading 22 assists. Corbeil leads the team with 14 goals and Betts is a close second with 13.

The Fort Wayne Komets also placed six skaters on the Western Conference squad. The rest of the team will be made up of members from the Bloomington Prairie Thunder, Chicago Hounds and Quad City Mallards.

The ’Hogs have two more home games prior to the All-Star break. They host the Port Huron Flags this Friday night, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m., and then welcome their archrival the Quad City Mallards to the MetroCentre Saturday night, Jan. 13, at 7:05 p.m.
