Do you lack energy or experience frequent daytime sleepiness? Do you snore or stop breathing while you sleep? When was the last time you had a good nights sleep that lasted between seven and nine hours?
The SwedishAmerican Sleep Disorders Center is hosting Sleepy Days, Sleepless Nights, a free information discussion about the benefits of adequate sleep and the consequences of sleep disorder. This special event will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Hoffman House, 7550 E. State St. Refreshments will be served.
The speaker for the evening will be Patricia Ann Reetz, R.Psg.T. She has worked in the sleep medicine field for 19 years. She serves as a sleep specialist with Invacare Corporation.
National Sleep Awareness Week begins Monday, March 5, and ends Sunday, March 11, when daylight-saving time returns and many of us will lose an hour of sleep. This is a time to raise the importance of sleep and understand that sleep deprivation is a widespread problem. According to the National Sleep Foundation, at least 100,000 police-reported crashes and 1,500 deaths are attributed to drowsy driving each year. Sleep deprivation also has been linked to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart problems and other illnesses.
