Slugger Fest 50-and-older softball tournament Aug. 25-26

At my age, it is nice to find something besides Medicare and AARP that I’m too young for. I can now add to that very short list the Rockford Park District’s Senior Slugger Fest.

The Slugger Fest is a softball tournament designed for players age 50 and older. The tournament will be divided into two categories—players 50 and older, and players 60 and older. The participants must turn 50 or 60 by Dec. 31 to qualify for their age group. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of five games with pool play and double elimination. The entry fee is $180 per team.

The tournament will be held the weekend of Aug. 25-26 at the Sportscore One Complex in northwest Rockford. Teams have until Aug. 10 to submit their fees and team rosters. The roster is limited to 20 players.

USSSA and Softball Players Association rules will govern the tournament. Only legal bats listed on the USSSA Web site will be allowed.
