Last Saturday, April 28, on a perfect night under the stars and the lights of the Rockford Speedway, Sonny Schoffen shone brightly. He won his debut race in the NASCAR Late Model division. After starting on the pole, he went green to checkered in the 30-lap main event.

Bill “The Racin’ Rebel” Hobson held off Jon Reynolds Jr. to take second. Jerry Gille finished ahead of Ryan Carlson to round out the top five in the Late Models.

In the Budweiser American Short Tracker division, it was Matt “Ham” Berger taking the checkered in their 25-lap feature. He started the race in the eighth position, and worked his way to first after the 10th lap. He held off a late-race challenge from former Short Tracker champion Boyce “BJ” Sparkman to win by a car length.

Charlie “The Tuna” Frisch won the Road Runner 20-lap feature. With three laps to go, Frisch inherited the lead from Jason VanHise, who was black-flagged for rough driving. Chris Gantz ended up finishing second.

In the visiting INEX Legends division, Brandon Allen won their 15-lap feature. He finished ahead of Ross Kenseth (son of Nextel Cup star Matt Kenseth) for the victory.

Vern Fagerberg took the checkered flag in the INEX Bandolero 12-lap main event.

Saturday night, May 5, the Devastator Monster Truck will be part of the regular weekly action. The Devastator is making up a freeze-out from earlier in the season. Racing action begins at 7:07 p.m.
